Tokyo University Symposium on Water Issue

      Tokyo: Ambassador Farukh Amil delivered a key note address at the Tokyo University Symposium on Water Issues.  Speaking at GEOSS Joint Asia-Africa Water Cycle Symposium he highlighted the challenges being faced by the world due to climate change.  He noted that during the past few years Pakistan experienced the negative effects of climate change in the shape of floods and droughts.  The Ambassador emphasized that water was a precious resource which needed to be managed more efficiently and effectively.  Many regions were moving from being water plentiful to water stressed. 

      The Ambassador appreciated incentives taken by JAXA, JICA, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, APN and other organizations to share knowledge, expertise and resources to meet the challenges.  Mentioning JAXA’s Advanced Space Application for Environment (SAFE) project in Pakistan he said, it was an excellent effort to promote space application knowledge in the Environmental field.  He also expressed appreciation to Professor Toshio Koike for his vision to build a strong foundation for regional and global collaboration in the field of environment.  He underlined the need to make this effort sustainable and meaningful to cope with the numerous crises in a scientific manner.
