Business Seminar

      A business seminar was held at the Pakistan embassy on Friday November 15th. It was hosted by the Economic Wing in collaboration with the International Friendship Centre to inform Japanese companies about the economic situation in Pakistan including investment opportunities available there.

      The companies whose CEOs attended the seminar included Techno Brain, Hitachi, Yashima Denki, Mitsubishi Materials, Toshiba, KYB, Daiwa House Industries, Tobishima, and Business Consultant

The Ambassador, Farukh Amil gave opening remarks introducing Pakistan’s many growing and expanding economic opportunities.

      The Economic Minister Dr. Talat Imtiaz gave a presentation within the context of the world economic situation and the Japanese economy. She made a case for investment in Pakistan with its myriad opportunities for growth and development. She spoke about the cross currents of economic development as sure to pass through Pakistan owing to its geographical positioning and proximity to Central Asia, Middle East, and progressing South Asia. The Economic Minister then spoke at length on investment opportunities and incentives given by the Government of Pakistan in Energy, Mining, IT & Telecom, Textile, Infrastructure and Transportation, Agriculture, Livestock, Horticulture, and Fisheries sectors.

      The participating companies showed an avid interest in the economy of Pakistan and the investment opportunities and asked many questions about the labor situation, procurement of auto parts, about education, Malala Yousafzai as an outstanding example of the good level of education in Pakistan. They were also interested to know about the five year plan for infrastructure development in Pakistan. In responding to the questions several handouts on investment in Pakistan, were provided to the participants.

      A reception was held afterwards where the participants were able to informally communicate and interact with the Ambassador, the Economic Minister Dr. Talat Imtiaz, and the Commercial Counselor Mr. Shehzad Ahmed Khan.
