Osaka: Ambassador Farukh Amil while giving an interview to Mr. Takaaki Masaki, General Manager, The Senken Shinbun newspaper, the leading textile industry newspaper of Japan, highlighted the strengths of the textile industry of Pakistan and shared the export trend of textiles from Pakistan to Japan during the last five years. The Ambassador said that there had been growth in the exports of textiles but it remained below than the potential which can be achieved, if Pakistan was given a level playing field. Competitors enjoyed duty free access either due to Free Trading Agreements or being an LDC . Whilst EPA with Pakistan was under discussion the Ambassador said it was important to urgently look at options on how to address this competitive imbalance, so that Japanese consumers could benefit from high quality products from Pakistan. He also informed that many Japanese leading chain stores were looking towards Pakistan as potential sourcing market.
